Title: Thoughts

Blog Entry: Well as you have most likely read elsewhere the old Dingo hasn't been too good over the last few weeks. Suffered another bout of slight pneubloodymonia and a great resurgence of the gout which has meant a very sedate lifestyle. Anyway, to keep the mind active I resort to my old love The Casualty List to which most of you know I supply the cold hard facts. I came across a few details today which brought a tear to the eye because of my love for dogs, good dogs that is. I read the radio log of where a tracker/handler had been WIA rather badly and was "dusted-off" to Vampire with another WIA with GSW to his upper thigh at 1500hrs. At 1808hrs c/s 3 requested another handler be flown out from the Dat to care for the dog because the dog was 'fretting' for his handler. Imagine the dog in that situation. My mate is gone, the bloke who looks after me as I look after him, he's the one that feeds and cares for me, he's the bloke I curl up with every night, what do I do now? I know the other blokes in the Section but it isn't the same thing. My mate has gone. At 1830hrs from c/s 3 to 0A: Where is handler for dog? At 1846hrs from 0A to c/s 3: Handler leaving this loc now on Possum. At 1857hrs the handler and dog depart c/s 3 loc for the Dat. This is a point I would like to make. The handler had been WIA at 1230hrs but didn't want to leave his dog but was made to go at 1500hrs. Work that one out people. The handler was 2hrs 30mins WIA to Dustoff and the dog 3hrs 57mins after his 'mate' went. Food for thought as to how we felt for our dogs. A funny I found was a 2Lt who shot himself in the foot with an OMC during a Coy O Gp. Lucky for him he was wearing the old Boots Half Heavy, w/TS so he really didn't get much of a wound. From then on the joke was the OC would announce before an O Gp to the CSM,"CSM, disarm the Officers". I've figured out that when our host for Diggers 2009 got himself hurt that I was up at Di-An with Charlie Troop 3/17th Air Cav and working out of Tay Ninh into the "Parrotts Beak" as far as the "Tricky Dickie Line". But thats another story. Time to take more of those antibiotics so I'd better have another VB. Night all.
