It's a (Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation) CAC 18 Mk 21....Generically known all over the world as the "P-51D"

RAAF Serial numbers were A68-XXX

I say it is a P-51K

298 USA built P-51D and P-51K sent down under.

200 P-51D built by CAC

Alternative designators for CAC built P-51 Aircraft

CA-17

CA-18

Very little operational exploits by these planes as they arrived near end of WW2. Showed their capabilities in Korea. Especially with the flaming onion rocket.

Avon Sabres (Aussie Built with a rolls royce Avon engine and many other changes compared to the yank version) did fly firstly in 1953 then were rolling out by 1954 and would of seen service in Korea.

I can not give serial numbers or the like however;

1. P51D Mustang.

2. Sabre

Not used by RAAF in Korea. April 1953 Three RAAF men posted to USAF for initial training and a ten week conversion time in action with USAF Sabres. Any future Aussie Sabres not expected to be operational to 1956.

All three FO's Rosser, James and Doolittle were KIA in USAF Sabres.

Day 2 of Temora Aviation Museum's "Fly Day" weekend and this was only the second time ever that all 3 RAAF fighters of the Korean war flew in formation. I am still sorting through my video and pics, but had to upload this one.

I'll shout a beer for the first person to correctly ID the lead fighter.
